Performance = Potential – Interference
This equation is from Tim Gallwey’s best selling book, “The Inner Game of Work.” Today’s leaders have plenty of potential, but they are under enormous pressure to produce results in a complex environment. Their performance is ultimately determined by how much interference is getting in the way of their ability to achieve their goals.
The business pages are filled with examples of leaders who derail too early in their careers. Ultimately, business performance is impacted negatively when leaders fail to address the personal interference that gets in the way of them maximizing their full potential.
Sadly, the number one reason people leave companies is because of poor relationships with their manager and team members. Most often they cite not feeling valued, heard, trusted, or understood. We know employee retention and engagement are foundational to business performance. Studies reveal those leaders who have developed behaviors associated with emotional intelligence outperform others in engaging and retaining top talent.
Whew! Being a leader today isn’t easy.
In addition to being technically competent and qualified, great leaders must have high levels of self-awareness and social/emotional intelligence. At LMA, we help leaders maximize their potential by highlighting their strengths, and minimizing their interference, in short – we help them get out of their own way.
We know it’s tough. We’re here to help.
